New Horizon Mine TR-57
3rd Adequacy Review
18-Nov-2008
showed high results". The reference to (e)-1 appears to be a typographical error;
should be (d)-1. On amended Attachment page 2.05.4(2)(d)-1-18, the narrative
references lab results on amended Attachment pages ...(d)-1-19 and ...(d)-1-20, and
states that the remediation samples demonstrate acceptable saturated paste
conductivity levels. Unfortunately, there appears to have been some type of copying
error, such that only one page of a two page soil analytical report was provided, and
the page provided did not include conductivity results (to verify the narrative
conclusion).
Please correct the typographical error on amended narrative page ...(d)-35, and
please provide both pages of the two page August 2008 soil analytical report for
inclusion in Attachment ...(d)-1, to demonstrate acceptable saturated paste
conductivity levels in the immediate vicinity of Sample Site #32.
39. The Division noted that the Section 2.05.4(2)(d) table of contents listed a sub-section
titled ."Prime Farmland Revegetation Success Standards", however no such section
was included in the amended narrative. The Division further noted that Attachment
2.05.4(2)(d)-1 was erroneously listed twice in the section table of contents.
Clarification and appropriate amendment was requested.
The operator opted to address the Prime Farmland Revegetation Success Standards
issues within the forthcoming Permit Revision Application. The section table of
contents was properly amended to reflect deletion of the subsection, and the
erroneous'additional reference to Attachment ...(d)-1 was properly deleted. Item
Resolved.
40. (New Item) In the cover letter response to this review, please include (in
addition to the item specific response) a summary description of any changes
(and justification for same) made subsequent to the July version of the Soil
Resource or Topsoil (Redistribution) sections of the application that were not in
response to Division adequacy review requests.
This concludes the Division's Third Adequacy Review for New Horizon Mine (Permit No.
C-1981-008) Technical Revision No. 57 - Soil Resource Information, Soil Handling, and
Prime Farmland. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions that may arise.
Sincerely,

Marcia L. Talvitie, P.E.
Environmental Protection Specialist
xc: Greg Lewicki & Associates
DRMS File
