Abert's Squirrel: No Abert's squirrels were observed in the survey area. The Project
Area does not provide any suitable habitat for Abert's squirrels. There is no suitable
habitat within miles of the project area.
American marten: American marten were discussed in the sensitive species section of
this report.
Northern goshawk: Northern goshawk was discussed in the sensitive species section of
this report.
Brewer's sparrow: Brewer's sparrow was discussed in the sensitive species section of
this report.
Merriam's wild turkey: Males and hens with broods were observed near the Deer Creek
shaft area and further up the Dry Fork drainage. A tail feather was also found in the
upper reaches of the Deep Creek drainage. Turkeys have also been observed in the
project area during previous surveys and at other times. There are large expanses of
suitable habitat for these birds within the project area that will not be affected.
Red-reaped sapsucker: Red-naped sapsuckers were observed in mature aspen stands
throughout the area. These birds were observed in all mature aspen stands in the area and
have been observed in aspen stands throughout the North Fork Valley. A few of these
birds were observed in oakbrush dominated mountain shrub communities.
There is suitable nesting habitat in numerous mature aspen stands throughout the project
area. Only a very small percentage of available aspen habitat will be disturbed by
proposed well pad and road construction. The large expanses of available suitable habitat
and the minor amount that will be affect minimizes the potential for impacts to these
birds.
Common Trout: Common trout, which include Colorado River cutthroat trout, rainbow
trout, brown trout and brook trout, do not occur in any streams found in the project area.
SUMMARY
During wildlife surveys conducted in May, June & July 2007, no T&E wildlife species or
their habitat were found. Should any of these species be encountered appropriate
measures as determined by the Forest Service and FWS will be implemented to avoid
disturbance.
Several sensitive species were commonly observed in the project area. Measures should
be implemented to minimize impacts to habitat utilized by these species.
Most management indicator species were observed in the project area. Measures should
be implemented to minimize impacts to habitat utilized by these species.
One listed plant species, the Rocky Mountain Thistle was found in the project area.
These were found in a disturbed area along a road. Upgrading of roads will be done in a
27
