Type of Undertaking: The undertaking consists of the proposed drilling of methane drainage wells (MDW) on <br />constructed earthen pads, the construction of new access roads associated with the drill pads, and the upgrading <br />and maintenance of existing access roads, all of which will take place on lands managed by the USDA Forest <br />Service, Gunnison National Forest. Passive and/or active degassing equipment will be installed at the wells. The <br />wells will be operated and maintained for mine ventilation for the duration of the recovery of E Seam coal reserves. <br />During the project, interim reclaiming of mud pits as well as seeding and mulching of outslopes and cut-slopes will <br />be carried out. Upon completion of the project (i.e., after the MDWs have fulfilled their intended function and are <br />0- no longer needed, a total estimated period of 12 years), the drill holes will be plugged, the pads reclaimed, and new <br />access roads will be decommissioned.
