i
Additional priority interim reclamation involves No. 3 dam and
No. 5 dam. Initial work on stabilizing and reclaiming No. 5 dam
will begin in 1989. Rock material from the east edge of the
Mayflower tailing pond will be removed and placed on the dam
face to a depth of 18"-36" . This rock will grade 7-15% <200
mesh and 20-40% >31' . Ultimately, soil materials may be placed
over the rock face and reseeded in the standard manner . In
addition, the beach area of the Mayflower tailing pond flat will
be covered with 6" to 1 ' of the same rock material to stabilize
the flat from wind erosion, thus reducing Coherex use (see Ex-
hibit K - Climate and Air Quality ) .
Interim reclamation work on No. 3 dam is scheduled to begin in
1994. This stabilization work will be similar to that for No. 1
and No. 5 dams. Stable rock material either from the minesite
or from a quarry located near the dam will be placed on the face
up to a depth of 36" . Topsoil probably will not be used on No.
3 dam because of its scarcity and needs for priority areas, but
reseeding will be attempted depending on the results of trials
at No. 1 dam.
• Non-priority Interim Reclamation
In addition to the priority interim reclamation areas discussed
above, site specific reclamation of the 23 non-priority interim
sites (Appendix D; Map ID areas Cl-C23 ) will be initiated in
1989. As noted in Appendix D and in Appendices B and C (Exhib-
its C and F, respectively) , these non-priority sites are small
areas ( 1-9 acres ) scattered around the property which require
little site preparation and can be reclaimed quickly. Revegeta-
tion of these sites primarily will enhance property esthetics as
these sites are already physically stabilized.
Active Operating Areas - Final Reclamation
The sites listed under Map ID area A (Active Operating Areas ) in
Appendix D are those considered as necessary for the operation
of the mine during times of production. These sites will be
maintained in a state of readiness during those periods when the
mine is not producing because of world market conditions . As
noted in the "General Timetable" columns of Appendix D, final
reclamation of these sites will be completed within ten years
following final mine closure.
•
E-7
