Colowyo C-1981-019
22 October 2008
Pg 2/4
Hydrologic Balance: - The Gossard Pond (NPDES 003A) contained water
approximately four feet below the riser pipe and was not discharging at the time of
the inspection. The pond embankment was well vegetated and appeared to be
stable at the time of the inspection. No erosional problems noted on the
embankment at the time of the inspection. The emergency spillway is a 12" culvert.
- The Rail Loop Pond (NPDES OO6A) was not inspected because there was a train
being loaded.
- The Prospect Pond (NPDES 007A) contained water approximately six feet below the
top of the riser (to the bottom weep hole) but was not discharging at the time of the
inspection. The pond embankment still has a fair amount of debris and mud on it
from August's storm but it remains well vegetated and appears to remain stable. The
emergency spillway is a grouted, riprapped open channel. There were no erosional
problems noted on the pond embankment at the time of the inspection. Colowyo
has indicated that the pond is scheduled to be cleaned on or around 17 November
2008. The contract has been awarded to Anson Construction but they are waiting on
a long-reach excavator.
- The Gulch A Pond (NPDES 004A) contained water approximately three feet below
the riser and was not discharging at the time of the inspection. There appears to be
a good deal of sediment in the Gulch A Pond but it is not scheduled to be cleaned
this fall. The pond embankment was well vegetated and appeared to be stable at
the time of the inspection. No erosional problems noted on the embankment at the
time of the inspection. The emergency spillway is an open, trapezoidal riprapped
channel. The spillway appeared to be stable and well maintained at the time of the
inspection. Goodspring Creek flows right past the Gulch A Pond embankment. The
creek was flowing at what appeared to be its normal seasonal flow.
- The Streeter Pond (NPDES 001 A) contained water approximately two feet below the
discharge pipe and was discharging through the weep hole at the time of the
inspection. The discharge and the water in the pond appeared to be clear at the
time of the inspection. The pond embankment was well vegetated and appeared
to be stable at the time of the inspection. No erosional problems noted on the
embankment at the time of the inspection. The Streeter Pond is also scheduled to be
cleaned this fall. It will be cleaned after the Prospect Pond.
- The Section 28 Pond was dry at the time of the inspection. The pond embankment
appeared to be stable at the time of the inspection. The embankment has a fair
amount of growth and should continue to progress nicely next spring. The
emergency spillway is a riprapped, open channel that appeared to be stable.
Construction on this pond embankment was completed late last summer. There
does not appear to be any settling or cracking in the newly constructed
embankment.
- The Stoker Siding Pond (NPDES 005A) contained water approximately four feet
below the top of the discharge pipe and was discharging a trickle from the weep
hole at the bottom of the pipe. The pond embankment was well vegetated and
appeared to be stable.
