Three sources of wetland vegetation ensure the establishment of a diverse and self-
sustaining wetland plant community. Subject to site conditions and availability, after basins
have been backfilled and graded they will be seeded using the "Foothills Wetland Seed
Mix" prepared by Western Native Seed Company or similar prepared wetland seed mix
native to the region and life zone. In addition, colonization from nearby existing wetland
plant communities and volunteer plant growth will ensure the propagation of wetland
vegetation that is genetically best suited to the specific environmental conditions along this
section of the Poudre River riparian corridor.
SEED MIX FOR WETLAND AREAS *

COMMON NAME
SCIENTIFIC NAME VARIETY
% PLS
LBS/Acre
Use Western Native
Seed's or similar High Plains/Foothills Wetland
Mix most economical treatment

American slou h rass Beckmannia s zi achne 12.0 0.96
Woolly sedge Carex lanu inosa 0.5 0.80
Nebraska sedge Carex nebrascensis 4.0 0.16
Creeping s ikerush Eleocharis alustris 10.0 0.16
Canada wild rye El mus canadensis 15.0 0.80
Arctic rush Juncus balticus/arcticus 1.0 0.16
Torre 's rush Juncus torre i 1.0 0.16
Manna grass Gl ceria striata 0.5 0.64
Switch grass Panicum vir tum 12.0 0.96
Hard-stem bulrush Scir us acutis 10.0 0.16
Three-square bulrush Scir us americanus 4.0 0.80
Cloaked bulrush Scir us allidus 1.0 0.80
Alkali bulrush Scir us aludosus 10.0 0.64
Softstem bulrush Sci us validus 10.0 0.16
Prairie cord grass S artina ectinata 9.0 0.16

100.0 8.00

In areas that are peripheral to the post-mining ponds, marsh and aquatic plants are
expected to establish themselves. The species of plants anticipated to occur naturally
along the lake shoreline include cattails, willows, cottonwoods, and bulrushes. These
plants should minimize shore erosion potential. If native species do not establish along the
shorelines, additional plantings will be installed to supplement the habitat. Additional
shoreline planting may include the following:
Riverview Resource
Amendment to Permit M1999098 112c
Page E5 of E6
