structures. The CQA Monitor will record visual observations throughout the construction <br />process to ensure that the materials are placed to the minimum dimensions as shown on <br />the DRAWINGS. Quality control testing will be performed by the CONTRACTOR. <br />6.02.01 FOUNDATION PREPARATION: <br />The CQA Monitor shall observe and document the foundation preparation including: <br />? stripping and excavation activities to ensure that CONTRACTOR places the <br />material in the appropriate stockpile (Structural Fill, Select Structural Fill, <br />Underdrain Fill, Leak Detection Fill, Low Volume Solution Collection Fill, <br />Bedding Fill. Soil Liner Fill, Drain Cover Fill, Fine Shaft Backfill, Pipe Bedding <br />Material and Granular Filter Material), if stockpiling is necessary; <br />? stockpiling activities to verify location of stockpile, material type, and <br />dressing; <br />? excavations for moisture seeps, unsuitable foundation soil, elevation, and <br />proper drainage; <br />? subgrade preparation to confirm that the surface of the subgrade is free of <br />soft, organic, and otherwise deleterious materials (such as debris, branches, <br />vegetation, mud, ice, or frozen materials); and that soil and rock surfaces <br />that contain joints or fractures are adequately filled in accordance with the <br />SPECIFICATIONS; <br />? placement of end berm and regraded ore slope material to confirm that it <br />complies with Section 0220 of the SPECIFICATIONS: and. <br />? construction of access roads, drainage control features and erosion control <br />features to verify compliance with the DRAWINGS and SPECIFICATIONS. <br />6.02.02 PLACEMENT OF MATERIALS: <br />During placement of Structural Fill, Select Structural Fill, Coarse Shaft Backfill, Cemented <br />Rockfill, Underdrain Fill, Low Volume Solution Collection Fill, Bedding Fill, Leak Detection <br />Fill, Soil Liner Fill, Drain Cover Fill, Fine Shaft Backfill, Pipe Bedding Material and Granular <br />Filter Material, the CQA Monitor shall: <br />? verify the use of appropriate fills; <br />? monitor and document material placement, including soil type, particle size, <br />loose lift thickness, moisture conditioning process, compaction equipment <br />and methods used to attain compaction, including number of passes, <br />uniformity of compaction coverage, compacted lift thickness, bonding of <br />lifts and in-place moisture content and dry density is in compliance with the <br />SPECIFICATIONS; <br />? monitor Soil Liner Fill surface preparation to verify that the surface has been <br />proof-rolled, compacted, or handworked so as to be in a condition suitable <br />Section 01400.1 Page 6 of 11 March 22, 2000 <br />Earthworks CQA Plan Golder Associates Revision 5 <br />I:\99\2099\final reporMpecs\0140016.doc
