Christy Woodward
September 17, 2008
Page 2
Operation (DMO) status at the Sunday Mines Group as set forth by the Colorado Mined Land
Reclamation Act and associated regulations. In addition, this work plan incorporates
information and data collection/ assessment approaches discussed with Denison in July 11
and July 15, 2008, project meetings.
During development of this work plan, the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Act (Colorado
Revised Statutes Title 34, Article 32 [CRS §34-32]) was amended via Colorado House Bill (HB)
1161 as signed into law by the Governor on May 20, 2008. The revised statutes changed the
definition of a DMO to include all uranium mine operations ind u d in ; conventional
underground uranium mines such as the Sunday Mines Group. Revised regulations have not
yet been adopted by the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation hoard to address CRS §34-32-103.
This data collection work plan has been developed to address this change in the DMO
definition and is consistent with information provided by DBMS to Denison in a June 6, 2008
letter (DRMS 2008c).
As described in Denison 's letter to DRMS, groundwater data collection will be completed for
the Sunday Mines in order to assess the hydrogeologic conditions at the site. Based on
evaluation of groundwater quality data- and other existing information, a hydrogeologic
report will be developed to describe the overall hydrogeologic conditions for the Sunday
Mines Group. The Van 4 Mine is not included as part of this work plan because groundwater
is not encountered at the Van 4 Mine.
This work plan includes the following compo-rents:
• A description of the hvdrogeologic framework in the area of the Sunday Mines Group
developed based on field reconnaissance and `literature review;
• A description of groundwater-related issues that are pertinent to potential DMO
status and compliance with associated requirements of CRS §34-32;
• Data collection procedures that are proposed to address pertinent groundwater-
related issues;
• Data assessment activities that are planned to evaluate pertinent groundwater-related
issues.
Preliminary Interpretation of Hydrogeologic Framework
A preliminary interpretation of the hydrogeologic framework has been developed based on
information learned during a site reconnaissance and literature review. The purpose of this
interpretive hydrogeologic framework is to organize the available data into a conceptual
model to facilitate planning for hydrogeological and geochemical evaluation of the Sunday
Mines Group.
