There are a wash plant and wash ponds
installed in the NW end of the pit. It uses purchased water that was hauled in, and no well permit is necessary.
The operator stated that they want to expand the permit to the south, onto BLM land. There have been several previous
amendments to expand the permit, and if the areas of upcoming expansion have not already been added to the permit, this will
require that an amendment is filed and approved, such as all previous expansions of this permit have involved. Evidence of
approval from BLM will also be required. At this time, all activities are contained within the permit boundary, but the permit
amendment must be approved and the bond recalculated before disturbance is increased.
Parts of this permit area are on BLM-managed land. The file reflects that the bond amount held by DRMS for this permit is
$88,876. The reclamation liability may exceed that amount since the BLM also holds some bond for the operation. The
required bond is being recalculated by this office to determine if sufficient bonding is currently posted to the two agencies. The
new figures will be sent to the operator if an increase is indicated.
Reclamation has been performed to a large degree in the older, eastern portions of the permitted pit. Some of those slopes,
however, may need some minor erosional features addressed and reseeding.
The last map in the DRMS file is not current enough nor complete, and a new map is needed. This is noted as a problem on
page one of this report. The corrective action is that the operator must prepare and submit a map that depicts the entire permit
boundary and all current features: areas of activity and reclamation, stormwater controls, unaffected areas, storage areas for
fuels and equipment, stockpile areas for imported materials, etc. Please ensure that it contains the entire permit area
(including the southern end, which does not appear on any of the maps), locations of all structures, the locations where
reclamation is in some stage of completion, topsoil stockpiles, and areas where weed infestations are being monitored and
treated. Please refer to Rule 6.2.1 and Rule 6.4.3. The correction date is shown on the last page of this report.
No further items were observed during the inspection. Responses to this inspection report should be directed to this inspector
at the Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety, 691 County Road 233, Suite A-2, Durango, Colorado 81301. (Please note:
As of 7/1/08 the Durango Field Office moved to the new address, shown above. Please revise your records as
necessary.)
I & E Contact Address
NAME
OPERATOR
STREET
CITY/STATE/ZIP
Perry Neil
C&J Gravel Products, Inc.
27661 US Hwy 160 E
Durango, CO 81301
cc: Steve Shuey, DRMS
?
