Colowyo C-1981-019
9 September 2008
Pg 3/4
Hydrologic Balance (cont.): - East Side Collection Ditch (cont.) -The ditch is a grass-
lined ditch for most of its length and it appeared to be stable at the time of the
inspection. There were no areas that were filled in with sediment so the ditch does
not need to be cleaned. No erosional problems were noted in the ditch at the time
of the inspection.
- The Streeter South Side Ditch was also walked on 8 September 2008. The Streeter
South Side Ditch collects runoff from the reclaimed Streeter watershed of the East Pit
and a small amount of associated undisturbed area and routes it to the Streeter
Pond. The ditch also collects the runoff immediately above the Streeter Fill and
routes it into bottom 1,000 feet of the Streeter Gulch Ditch, which is located on the
north side of the Streeter Fill. The rains in our area had mostly stopped by this point
and again, there was no immediate runoff in the ditch at the time of the inspection.
The ditch is mostly a grass-lined and it appeared to be stable at the time of the
inspection. No erosional problems were noted in the ditch at the time of the
inspection.
- The lower 1,000 feet of the Streeter Gulch Ditch was also inspected. This portion of
the ditch is a very steep portion that runs along the north side of the Streeter Fill. The
ditch contains large riprap for stabilization. This lower portion of the ditch appeared
to be stable at the time of the inspection and no erosional problems were noted.
-Start Herel!I The Gulch A Pond (NPDES 004A) contained water approximately three
feet below the riser and was not discharging at the time of the inspection. There
appears to be a good deal of sediment in the Gulch A Pond from the spring runoff.
The pond embankment was well vegetated and appeared to be stable at the time
of the inspection. No erosional problems noted on the embankment at the time of
the inspection. The emergency spillway is an open, trapezoidal riprapped channel.
The spillway appeared to be stable and well maintained at the time of the
inspection. Goodspring Creek flows right past the Gulch A Pond embankment. The
creek was flowing very high and muddy at the time of the inspection and appears to
be well above its normal seasonal flow.
- The Streeter Pond (NPDES 001 A) contained water approximately two feet below the
discharge pipe and was discharging through the weep hole at the time of the
inspection. The discharge and the water in the pond appeared to be clear at the
time of the inspection. The pond embankment was well vegetated and appeared
to be stable at the time of the inspection. No erosional problems noted on the
embankment at the time of the inspection.
- The Section 28 Pond was dry at the time of the inspection. The pond embankment
appeared to be stable at the time of the inspection. There is some vegetation
beginning to grow on the embankment but the hot, dry weather has not really
helped. The emergency spillway is a riprapped, open channel that appeared to be
stable. Construction on this pond embankment was completed late last summer.
There does not appear to be any settling or cracking in the newly constructed
embankment.
- The Stoker Siding Pond (NPDES 005A) contained water approximately four feet
below the top of the discharge pipe but was discharging a trickle from the weep
hole at the bottom of the pipe. The pond embankment was well vegetated and
