MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: M-1941-07-5
INSPECTION DATE: -Fi/2R/08 INSPECTOR=S INITIALS: MAC JLE
OBSERVATIONS
This inspection was conducted by Michael Cunningham of DRMS, Jared Ebert of DRMS, and Allen Watts of
Kiowa County. This was a routine monitoring inspection of the mine site; the last inspection was conducted on
December 13, 2000. The Barnes Pit is located approximately 6 miles south of Towner, Colorado. The permitted
acreage covers 48.5 acres. The permit sign was in place at the entrance to the mine site.
At the time of the inspection there was no mining taking place. Mining is progressing to the south as indicated
in the Mining Plan. The pit was clean and free of trash. There was standing water at the northern portion of the
pit bottom. The standing water was most likely from a recent rain event; no hydrophytic vegetation was
observed. Mining is currently progressing to the southern permit boundary; the pit has reached the edge of the
northern permit boundary. The topsoil stockpiles have been segregated and are located along the edges of
the pit. The topsoil stockpiles have not been seeded as was stated in the Reclamation Plan. Mr. Watts indicated
that the topsoil stockpiles will be in their current location for an extended period of time. As such the topsoil will
need to be seeded to prevent erosion.
The northeastern and northwestern boundaries were marked with steel posts; the southeastern and
southwestern boundaries were delineated by a fence. The inspector recommended adding another boundary
marker along the east boundary to ensure that the Operator would not mine beyond the permit boundary.
This concluded the inspection.
I & E Contat Address
NAME: Allen Watts
OPERATOR: Kiowa County
STREET: P_ C).
