King I Ditches and Culverts - The east upland diversion ditch appeared in good condition and was
clear of debris. Rocks have been removed from the inlet of the culvert in the west upland diversion
that were reported on the June 4 inspection.
King II Ditches and Culverts—An updated design needs to be submitted as a Technical Revision to
show the two 24-inch diameter culverts that were installed in the north(inlet) end of the pond. The
approved design drawing(King II-007B) shows a single 48-inch culvert. Approved design drawing
King II-007B specifies riprap that is yet to be installed in undisturbed drainage ditches UDD-1, UDD-
2, UDD-3, and UDD-4. Drawing King II-007B also specifies a maximum 2:1 sideslope for all four
undisturbed drainage ditches, which locally may be impractical to achieve because it would be
necessary to cut into a hillslope that naturally is steeper than 2:1. The portal area is under construction
and its drainage configuration will necessitate an update of design drawing King II-007B and
associated SEDCAD runs. Silt fence is in place for temporary diversion of runoff from undisturbed
ground upslope from the portals. The operator's representative explained that a new drawing and the
SEDCAD runs have been completed will be submitted in a TR in the next few weeks.
Monitoring Wells - No problems were found with King I's downstream alluvial monitoring well (the
Wiltze well) and King II's downstream alluvial monitoring well (in the middle of Hay Gulch).
Processing Waste
The face of the waste pile at King I showed no evidence of structural instability. The top of the pile
was dry and was gently sloped back, away from the face. The ditch at the back of the pile was in good
condition.
Support Facilities
King I - Fuel tanks in the surface facilities area showed no signs of leaks or spills, and have adequate
spill barriers in place.
King II—Earthwork for the surface facilities area of this new mine began in March 2007. Much of the
surface earthwork(roads, ditches, etc.) has been completed. Structures in the loading and truck loop
areas are under construction. Four portals have been developed.
General Mine Plan Compliance
Approved Mine Plan Maps King I -005 and King II-005 were compared with the operator's on-site
mining progress maps. No discrepancies were found between the approved maps and the progress
maps.
Subsidence
There were no signs of subsidence or slope instability in the area on the ridge immediately north of the
four new portals of the King II Mine.
4
