RE: Request for Technical Revision to increase bonded area September 10, 2008
of M-1999-120, Fort Lupton Sand and Gravel Mine
Swinale-North area
The land area which will be the Swingle-North Pit is located in the north-west section of the
permitted area. The slurry wall will be constructed along the boundaries as shown on the
attached mining plan map. As is shown in the Mining Phases table on the map, the acreage to
be mined is 37 acres, the perimeter length is 5,304 feet, and the average depth to shale
bedrock is estimated at 29 feet. The estimated total area of the slurry wall is 153,816 square-
feet. The estimated slurry wall liner thickness will be 3 feet.
Swingle South area
The land area which will be the Swingle-South Pit is located in the south-west section of the
permitted area. The slurry wall will be constructed along the boundaries as shown on the
attached mining plan map. As is shown in the Mining Phases table on the map, the acreage to
be mined is 38 acres, the perimeter length is 5,024 feet, and the average depth to shale
bedrock is estimated at 29 feet. The estimated total area of the slurry wall is 145,696 square-
feet. The estimated slurry wall liner thickness will be 3 feet.
Please note that part of Swingle-South Pit (23 acres) was bonded to allow for stockpiling and
settling ponds in the TR-1 approval, dated February 27, 2006.
If you have questions or need anything else to complete the bonding calculations and finalize
the approval for this TR, please feel free to contact me directly at 303-286-2247 or via email at
Imshults@lgeverist.com.
Note: In a separate submittal, titled "Request for Release of Performance and Financial
Warranties," dated September 10, 2008, we are requesting a partial release of the financial
warranty (bond) associated with the construction of the slurry wall liner around the Golden
phase of the mine. We would greatly appreciate if the Division calculates the two financial
warranty changes together (this TR additional bond and the partial release) and then requires
us to make only one financial warranty adjustment for the site. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Lynn Mayer Shults
Regulatory Manager
cc: Steve Mousel, Dennis Fields, Richard Schneider
FL-DRMS-TR-bondParPanSwi-091008.doc sent via Certified Mail # 7007 3020 0001 1230 6097
