MANAGEMENT
RECEIVED
SEP 12 No
Division of Reclamation,
Mining and Safety
On behalf of Bowie Resources Limited (BRL), enclosed is an application for a technical revision
to provide for the drilling of two exploration holes. The exploration holes will determine if the old
mine workings are flooded and will assist in the determination of the remaining coal reserves
within the Bowie No. 1 Mine permit area. The project involves upgrading approximately 1.1 miles
of light use road, constructing 0.1 miles of new road and the construction of two drill pads. The
drill pad for hole BV-2 will be constructed on the upgraded light use road. Reclamation will
consist of restoring the drill pads to approximate original contour, narrowing the upgraded light
use road, reclaiming the new road and seeding.
Right of Entry
The new and upgraded light use roads and drill site for hole BV-1 are located on BRL surface.
All but 400 feet of the light use road for hole BV-2 are located on BRL surface. Hole BV-2 and
the 400 feet of light use road are located on BLM surface. Right of entry on BLM managed
surface in provided by Federal Coal Lease C-25079.
Affected and Disturbed Area
The new and upgraded light use roads and two drill pads will disturb approximately 2.3 acres.
Approximately 1.6 acres are over a mined out area. Therefore, the affected area will increase
0.70 acres.
Cultural Resources
The mine permit boundary has been extensively inventoried for cultural resources, see Volume
9B. A site specific Cultural Resource Inventory will be performed if required by the BLM. The
undisturbed portion of the area is heavily vegetated with oak brush.
Access
All access to the drill sites will be from SH-133 to Stevens Gulch Road. BV-1 will be accessed to
the west off of Steven's Gulch Road. BV-2 will be accessed to the east off of Stevens Gulch
Road. Access to the drill sites from these roads are shown on Map 4-1, Hydrologic
Reconnaissance.
