Permittee: WHITEWATER BUILDING MATERIALS CORP. PAGE 2
Permit #: M-1977-129
Operation Name: WHITEWATER 500 PIT
Anniversary Date: 09122/08
As mining is ending in Stage 2, we are starting preparations
for moving the processing plant and mining activities to
Stage 3 - PART A, north of the river. Please refer to Map
Sheet 2 of 2 when reviewing the information provided on that
area. This was done by stripping and mining 18.00 acres ± on
the north end of Stage - PART A and removing the topsoil on
a 6.00 acres raw material storage area in the northwest part
of Stage 6. When the processing plant is moved to the new
Industrial Site on Coffman Road material will be removed
from the raw material stockpile to the plant site immedi-
ately west of this storage area.
(2) Sloping was completed on 965 feet around the perimeter of
Stage 2 - PART A and the final 815 feet of slope in Phase 2
- PART B (green). The blue hatched areas show where we have
material stored to create slopes in Stages 2 - PART A. Only
final grading is necessary on these two areas.
Sloping was completed around the freshwater pond/settling
pond in Stage 3 - PART A as it was constructed. We continue
to monitor the area in Stage 4 - PART B that was reclaimed
in 2005. No seeding has been done around Stage 2 - parts A
& B on Stage 3 - part A. These areas are still being de-
watered so ground moisture is still too low for successful
revegetation. Per the landowners request we backfilled and
completed sloping on 2.50 acres in the corner of Stage 2 -
PART A (dark blue) .
There is approximately 20,000 cy of overburden stored in
Phase 2 - PARTS A, & B & Phase D that will be used on the
alpha stages and in Phase 2 - PART A as needed (orange).
These piles are in a constant state of flux with material
being added and removed as areas are stripped and resoiled.
The settling pond is still being used to clean process water
(gray). The stockpiles on the lake bottom in Phase 2 - PART
A will be removed or leveled as needed. The access corridor
is being utilized to cross the highway (heavy blue line).
weed control continued this year on the area around the
active mine and on the area around Phase 2- PARTS A & B. We
sprayed Knapweed and White Top from May 29th to June 19th
with water soluble 2-4-D and Curtail'". Approximately 3000
gallons of spray mix was use. This is still an uphill
battle since there is little or no control taking place on
properties surrounding the mine and seed is being wind blown
in from offsite areas that we have no control over. Spray-
ing will continue as needed. Tamarisk control and Russian
Olive removal continued along the mine access road and on
the western side of Stage 2 - PART A.
