2 Carefully monitor- the activities of the owls, noting and marking which burrows they are using. The
owls may use several burrows in a prairie dog town This is not easy to accomplish and will require considerable
time. When all active Burrowing Owl burrows have been located and marked, activity can proceed in areas
greater than 150 feet from Burtowing Owl burrows with little danger to the owls.. Activity closer than 150 feet
may endanger the owls.
As we have indicated in the past, if Western Fuels should choose to undertake mining in either the Second
or Third Park areas around Nucla, the CDOW would welcome the opportunity to discuss wildlife avoidance of,
mitigation measures for all wildlife species at the earliest opportunity in the planning process
If you have any questions or need for further information, please contact the Montrose office of the
Colorado Division of Wildlife at (970) 252-6000..
"neeiely, ?&C70
ss????
