Colowyo C-1981-019
13 August 2008 '
Pg 3/4
Hydrologic Balance (cont.): - The Gulch A Pond (NPDES 004A) contained water
approximately three feet below the riser and was not discharging at the time of the
inspection. There appears to be a good deal of sediment in the Gulch A Pond from
the spring runoff. The pond embankment was well vegetated and appeared to be
stable at the time of the inspection. No erosional problems noted on the
embankment at the time of the inspection. The emergency spillway is an open,
trapezoidal riprapped channel. The spillway appeared to be stable and well
maintained at the time of the inspection. Goodspring Creek flows right past the
Gulch A Pond embankment. The creek was flowing very high and muddy at the
time of the inspection and appears to be well above its normal seasonal flow.
- The Streeter Pond (NPDES 001 A) contained water approximately two feet below the
discharge pipe and was discharging through the weep hole at the time of the
inspection. The discharge and the water in the pond appeared to be clear at the
time of the inspection. The pond embankment was well vegetated and appeared
to be stable at the time of the inspection. No erosional problems noted on the
embankment at the time of the inspection.
- The Section 28 Pond was dry at the time of the inspection. The pond embankment
appeared to be stable at the time of the inspection. There is some vegetation
beginning to grow on the embankment but the hot, dry weather has not really
helped. The emergency spillway is a riprapped, open channel that appeared to be
stable. Construction on this pond embankment was completed late last summer.
There does not appear to be any settling or cracking in the newly constructed
embankment.
- The Stoker Siding Pond (NPDES 005A) contained water approximately four feet
below the top of the discharge pipe but was discharging a trickle from the weep
hole at the bottom of the pipe. The pond embankment was well vegetated and
appeared to be stable. The emergency spillway is a riprapped open channel. The
spillway appeared to be stable and functioning as designed. There were no
erosional problems noted on the pond embankment at the time of the inspection.
- The East Taylor Pond (NPDES 01 OA) contained water approximately eight feet below
the top of the discharge pipe and one foot below the weep hole and was not
discharging at the time of the inspection. The pond embankment was well
vegetated and appeared to be stable. The emergency spillway is a riprapped open
channel. The spillway appeared to be stable and functioning as designed. There
were no erosional problems noted on the pond embankment at the time of the
inspection.
- The West Pit Pond (NPDES 008A) contained water approximately eight feet below
the top of the discharge pipe and was not discharging at the time of the inspection.
The water was very murky. The presettling cell also contained a small amount of
water but was not discharging into the main pond. The pond embankment was well
vegetated and appeared to be stable. The emergency spillway is a riprapped open
channel. The spillway appeared to be stable and functioning as designed. There
were no erosional problems noted on the pond embankment at the time of the
inspection.
