0 0
Exhibit G - Water Information
The operation is expected to have minimal impact on both
surface and groundwater systems beyond what historically exists
at the site. The operations will create a rangeland/ recreation
area and possibly residential sites upon final reclamation.
As noted in Exhibit D, the site has been mined intermittenly
since about the 1940's; the depth of the workings have been
relatively shallow.
The elevation of the water table fluctuates seasonally.
According to the previous landowner, the elevation of the water
generally reaches its lowest point during the months of February,
March, April and May, and to its maximum rise-- to approximately
± four feet below the ground surface -- during the summer months.
The maximum rise in the elevation of the groundwater appears
to follow spring runoff and the irrigation of surrounding pasture
lands.
It is planned that the pit will be mined primarily during
the months of March through September, with some year round
work and that the pit will be wet mined when possible. Depending
on the maximum depth to be ultimately mined ( anticipated to
be about t 12 feet ) water may be encountered. If water is
encountered, the proper permits will be applied for and plans
provided for the final useage of the water.
An irrigation ditch was shown to cross the eastern portion
of the original mining area of the gravel pit. As shown before,
the ditch is no longer within the permitted area.
There are some probable wetlands located near the gravel
pit operations. These areas have been reviewed by the Army Corps
of Engineers and it was determined that the areas were
non-jurisdictional due to the fact that mining will remain out
of the areas in question by a distance of at least 50'.
A copy of their letter is attached.
Hearing on Permit No. M-1987-038
Bayfield Pit No. 1
