Colowyo C-1981-019
23 July 2008
Pg 4/6
Hydrologic Balance (cont.): - The West Pit Pond (NPDES 008A) contained water
approximately eight feet below the top of the discharge pipe and was not
discharging at the time of the inspection. The water was very murky. The presettling
cell also contained water but was not discharging into the main pond. The pond
embankment was well vegetated and appeared to be stable. The emergency
spillway is a riprapped open channel. The spillway appeared to be stable and
functioning as designed. There were no erosional problems noted on the pond
embankment at the time of the inspection.
- Sump 2 contained water approximately one foot from the top and was not
discharging. The sump appeared to be stable at the time of the inspection.
- Sump 3 contained water approximately one foot from the top and was not
discharging. The sump appeared to be stable at the time of the inspection.
- Sump 4 contained water approximately two feet from the top and was not
discharging. The sump appeared to be stable at the time of the inspection.
- Sump 5 was full and was not discharging. The sump appeared to be stable at the
time of the inspection.
- The Gulch A Ditch was walked. This ditch is a riprapped ditch that carries water
from the reclamation to the Gulch A Pond. The ditch was stable and well
constructed. Some portions of the ditch have sediment and vegetation between the
riprap, which appears to be adding to the stability. Overall, this ditch was in good
condition.
- The Southeast Tributary to Streeter Ditch was walked. This ditch is a riprapped ditch
that carries water from the reclamation to the Streeter Pond. The ditch was stable
and well constructed. Some portions of the ditch have sediment and vegetation
between the riprap, which appears to be adding to the stability. There was one
portion, around Station 25, where the ditch really flattens out. This area has a large
fan of sediment that has spread out into the reclamation. The reclamation and
grasses still appear to be doing well in this area and may be benefiting from the
additional sediment and moisture. Overall, this ditch is in good condition.
The Section 11 ditch was walked. This is a short length of ditch in the Gulch A Pond's
watershed. The ditch is a riprapped ditch that has a fair amount of vegetation
growing around the riprap. Overall, this ditch is in good condition.
- The East Side Collection Ditch was walked from where it intercepts the Gulch A
Ditch (station 0) to the Section 11 Ditch (approximately Station 50). The ditch is
riprapped in some portions and grass-lined in other portions. There is a spoil spring
that flows into the ditch, beginning around Station 14. There is very little flow and it
dries up shortly after entering the Gulch A Ditch. Overall, this ditch is in good
condition.
- The Section 16 Perimeter Ditch was walked. This ditch reports to the Section 16 Pond
(from the north side of the pond). This ditch is a grass-lined ditch and it appeared to
be stable and in good condition.
- The Section 16 Pond Ditch was walked. This ditch reports to the Section 16 Pond
(from the south side of the pond). The ditch is a grass-lined ditch. At this time,
Colowyo has submitted Technical Revision 71, which is a request to extend this ditch
approximately 2,000 feet (from approximately Station 48).
