Colowyo C-1981-019
23 July 2008
Pg 2/6 6Zr;P
Roads (cont.): - The Sturgeon road work has been completed. This includes the
blading, establishing the Missouri crossings and placing a gravel surface on the road.
The road has been completed and surfaced to the Section 28 Pond. The road was
well maintained and appeared to be stable at the time of the inspection. No
erosional problems were noted on the road at the time of the inspection.
- The road spur from the Section 28 Pond to the borrow area has some ruts but
appears to remain stable. This road will be bladed later this summer, after the borrow
area is regraded.
Hydrologic Balance: - The wash bay pond (not a NPDES discharge point) contained
water approximately four feet below the top of the embankment and was not
discharging. This is a total containment pond and discharge into the Work Area Pond
triggers BTEX testing (in addition to regular NPDES testing). The operator and the
contractors use this pond for water for their water trucks. The pond embankment was
well vegetated and appeared to be stable at the time of the inspection. No
erosional problems were noted on the pond embankment at the time of the
inspection.
- The Gossard Pond (NPDES 003A) contained water approximately four feet below
the riser pipe and was not discharging at the time of the inspection. The pond
embankment was well vegetated and appeared to be stable at the time of the
inspection. No erosional problems noted on the embankment at the time of the
inspection. The emergency spillway is a 12" culvert.
- The Rail Loop Pond (NPDES 006A) was inaccessible at the time of the inspection
because a train was being loaded.
- The Prospect Pond (NPDES 007A) contained water approximately six feet below the
top of the riser and was not discharging at the time of the inspection. There was some
colloidal material on the surface of the water in the pond. There already appears to
be a good deal of sediment in the Prospect Pond from the spring runoff. The pond
embankment was well vegetated and appeared to be stable at the time of the
inspection. No erosional problems noted on the embankment at the time of the
inspection. The emergency spillway is an open, trapezoidal riprapped channel. The
spillway appeared to be stable and well maintained at the time of the inspection.
- The Section 16 Pond (NPDES 009) contained water approximately seven feet below
the top of the discharge pipe and was not discharging at the time of the inspection.
The pond embankment was well vegetated and appeared to be stable at the time
of the inspection. No erosional problems noted on the embankment at the time of
the inspection. The emergency spillway is an open, trapezoidal riprapped channel.
The spillway appeared to be stable and well maintained at the time of the
inspection.
- The West Taylor Pond contained water approximately two feet below the top of the
discharge pipe and was discharging from the weep hole. The discharge appeared
to be clear at the time of the inspection. The pond embankment was well
vegetated and appeared to be stable at the time of the inspection. No erosional
problems noted on the embankment at the time of the inspection.
