Ill. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made during
the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection and the
facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a partial inspection conducted by Janet Binns of Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining
and Safety. The mine is a reclaimed surface mine. No mine personnel are on site. No operator
representatives accompanied the inspection. The weather was hot, dry and windy.
Roads: The main access gate was locked. Locks are locked in series so each lock has the ability to open
the gate. There was a gate up across the access road to the reclaimed Pond G. No cattle were observed
on the mine site or in the reclaimed Pond G area. The access road to the facilities area remains in good
condition. Roadside ditches remain functional.
Hydrologic Balance:
Pond F was dry and well vegetated with carexes in the bottom of the pond. No problems were identified
with Pond F.
Pond E was accessed from the county road. Pond E was holding water approximately 1 foot below the
discharge elevation. Vegetation on the pond embankment and pond side slopes was good with no
apparent gullying. No problems were identified at Pond E.
Pond D was holding water approximately 3 feet below the weep holes of the drop structure. A
pronghorn antelope was drinking from the pond at the time of the inspection. No problems were noted
with Pond D.
Pond B was holding a pool of clear water about 2 feet below the discharge elevation. The pond was not
discharging. No problems were identified with Pond B.
Pond A water level was almost dry. A weed choked puddle of water remains at Pond A. The east side
of the pond, including the embankment was well grazed, though vegetative cover was still sufficient to
control erosion. Cattle were visible in pasture southeast of the Pond A embankment.
The Loadout pond was weed choked and the water level was approximately 2"below the discharge
elevation.
Sealing of the groundwater wells at the Mine site has not commenced. SL4 remains under review
pending sealing of monitoring wells in the permit area. Remaining wells at the mine site include:
79-1 79-61
79-2 SP-01
79-3 AO-2A
Reve etg ation: Reclaimed Pond G area is blending in well with surrounding undisturbed land, and not
exhibiting rills or gullies. Gate across Pond G access road inhibited the ability to access the Pond G
reclaimed area. No rills or noxious weeds were apparent on the reclaimed Pond G area observing via
binoculars from County road 12E. Vegetation throughout the mine has greened up and appears healthy .
3 of 5 WHITE-File YELLOW-Operator PINK-Specialist
