• 2.3 Aggregates <br />Fine and Coarse aggregates shall at all times conform to ASTM C 33 and the following <br />requirements. <br />Test Limits <br />Pro ert Fine Aggregate Coarse <br />~~ <br />Specific Gravity (ASTM C 127, <br />ASTM C 128) 2.65 max 2.80 max <br />Absorption (ASTM C 127, 1.5 % max 3.5 % max <br />ASTM C 128) <br />Clay Lumps and Friable 3.0 % 3.0 % max <br />Particles (ASTM C 142) <br />Material Finer than 75 microns <br />(No. 200) Sieve (ASTM C 117) 3.0 % max 1.0 % max <br />• Fine aggregate shall consist of clean, sharp, washed natural or washed crushed sand of <br />uniform gradation. <br />The maximum size of the coarse aggregate shall be 3/4 inch, and it shall be clean, washed, <br />naturally siliceous gravel. It shall have hard, strong, durable pieces, free of deleterious <br />substances and adherent coatings and shall not contain flat or elongated particles in excess <br />of 15% by weight. <br />2.4 Water <br />Water used in mixing concrete shall be fit for human consumption, free of injurious <br />amounts of oil, acid, alkali, organic matter or other deleterious substances. <br />Water shall conform to the provisions in ASTM C 94, and in addition, shall conform to the <br />following: <br />• pH not less than 6.0 or greater than 8.0. <br />• Carbonates and/or bicarbonates of sodium and potassium: 1000 ppm maximum. <br />• Chloride ions (Cl): 250 ppm maximum. <br />• • Sulfate ions (SO4): 1000 ppm maximum. <br />03300-4 <br />
