• 13. Solution release potential flow paths <br />Potential solution release flow paths in the vicinity of the ADR and VLF are as follows: <br />The ADR and supporting facilities handling cyanide solution are located on liner that is either <br />pumped to the VLF or flows passively to the VLF. A solution release off liner in the ADR area <br />would. likely flow onto the relatively flat area surrounding the ADR. Should sufficient solution <br />be released to move solution distant from the ADR, additional unlined storm water catchment <br />ponds are in place between the ADR and streams, thus providing additional storage of solution ; <br />that may prevent surface water impacts off site, but not providing containment such that an <br />incident of this type would not be a release. <br />The VLF is a valley fill with the pump back facility located in the thalweg of the valley <br />downgradient of the VLF. As such, it is reasonable to expect that any significant seepage <br />volume would report to the underdrains leading to the pump back vault or to the surface at the <br />foot of the toe berm through the broader filter drain such that flows could be routed into the <br />pump back and returned to the VLF. <br />Any potential flows that may be seen at the leak detection trenches would likely be of low <br />volume given that the trenches are in the foundation materials of the VLF and beneath one foot <br />of compacted clay. Leak detection trenches report to sumps- where flows can be captured and <br />pumped back to the VLF. <br />IV. Response Actions <br />• Initial Notification <br />Any employee identifying a release of cyanide off containment shall immediately notify his/her <br />supervisor. The supervisor will then notify Carlton Security who will alert management, and <br />safety. <br />Survey the Scene <br />The individual must STOP, survey the scene and determine his/her safety and the safety of others <br />prior to proceeding with any response actions. <br />Measures to Stop Release <br />All reasonable steps will be taken to stop the source of the release insofar as such actions can be , <br />done safely. <br />Measures to Contain Release <br />All reasonable steps will be taken to contain the release insofar as such actions can be done <br />safely. These measures include use of equipment to build dikes, berms, sumps, or other <br />containment structures. <br />' Worker. Health and Safety <br />Worker health and safety is paramount when responding to incidents involving cyanide. If in <br />doubt about safe conditions, err on the safe side.
