SMITH WILLIAMS CONSULTANTS, INC.
•
the Mining and Ore Processing Facilities: Cresson Project, "which was presented as an
attachment to Amendment No. 6 to Permit M-1980-244 filed with the Division of Reclamation,
Mining, and Safety (DRMS, formerly Office of Mined Land Reclamation but referenced as
DRMS throughout this report) (CC&V 1993). In January 1997, Golder developed a design
report fora 620,000-square-foot valley leach extension in the area of the former site of the
Carlton Mill titled, "Cresson Project, Phase II Heap Leach Pad Expansion Design, "which was
submitted by CC&V to the DRMS with a March 20, 1997, letter titled, "Cresson Project; Permit
M-1980-244: Technical Revision for Expansion of Phase II of Cresson Project Valley Leach
Facility. " In July 1998, Golder developed a design report for Phase III titled, "Cresson Project;
Valley Leach Facility Expansion, Phase III Design, "which was presented as Volumes II and III
of Amendment No. 7 to Permit M-1980-244 filed with the DRMS (CC&V 1998). In March
2000, Golder developed a design report for Phase IV titled, "Cresson Project; Valley Leach
Facility Expansion, Phase IV Design, "which was presented as Volumes V, VI, and VII of
Amendment No. 8 to Permit M-1980-244 filed with the DRMS (CC&V 2000).
Pertinent data used as part of the previous designs, which have been approved by the MLRB and
DRMS, have been included as part of the Phase 5 VLF design.
• Base topography for the Phase 5 VLF area was based on digital contour maps of the area with a
5-foot contour interval and is shown in Drawing A200. Surveying and development of the
digital topography was performed by Foresight West Surveying, Inc. (Foresight West). The
design features, consistent with those submitted previously as part of the existing VLF design,
have been selected and developed through the integration ofstate-of--the-art methods, design
criteria, and site-specific conditions to minimize the potential for releases to the environment.
1.3 Design Criteria
•
Smith Williams completed the engineering design for Phase 5 VLF using the following design
criteria:
1.3.1 Valley Leach Facility (VLF)
Parameter Value
Maximum ore depth over liner 800 feet (Phase I through Phase IV)
590 feet Phase 5
Nominal ore angle of repose slope 1.3H:1V
Overall operational ore side slope against_u slo in round 1.6H:1V
Overall operational ore side slope against downslo in round 2.5H:1 V
Overall operational ore side slope above Phase 5 VLF PSSA embankment 2.OH:1 V
Maximum lift height 100 feet
S:\PROJECTS\1125 CC&V PHASE 5 VLF\H2 - DESIGMAREQUA VLFlVLF PHASE 5 FINAL REPORT V2.DOC
9
