The pond is unlined to allow infiltration of storm water between <br />events. <br />1.2 Scope of Work <br />The purpose of the Smith Williams Consultants, Inc. (Smith Williams) work, reported herein, <br />was to provide CC&V with engineering services for the design of Phase 5. This document <br />supports the engineering design and CC&V's permitting activities. This document includes the <br />following: <br />^ VLF site characterization <br />^ Results of laboratory testing of selected representative materials for VLF design <br />^ Review of historical underground workings information and recommendations for <br />foundation remediation in areas of underground workings within the Phase 5 VLF <br />area <br />^ Design and layout for the Phase 5 VLF <br />^ Engineering analysis to design the VLF foundation, including an evaluation of the <br />slope stability for the ore depths and VLF footprint <br />^ Engineering support to increase ore depth to a maximum of approximately 800 feet <br />over the liner in the Phase I through IV VLF, and 590 feet over the liner in the Phase <br />5 VLF <br />^ Water balance calculations for the Phase 5 VLF PSSA sizing and to verify sufficient <br />solution capacity in the Phase I, Phase II, Phase IV PSSAs and the ESP <br />^ Hydraulic design of the storm-water diversion channels in the Phase 5 VLF area <br />^ A design report suitable for management and agency review <br />^ Technical Specifications for the VLF and ancillary features. <br />1.2.1 VLF Design History <br />In October 1993, Golder Associates Inc.
