Main project area hydrologic conditions 15 <br />statistics, water level and field parameter data summaries have been compiled for <br />monitoring wells WCMW-2, WCMW-3, and WCMW-6, and are provided in Tables A16 <br />through A18 (Attachment A), respectively. <br />Groundwater levels in WCMW-2 vary from 24.4 to 48.2 feet bgl. Groundwater levels in <br />WCMW-3 vary from 54.1 to 79.1 feet bgl. Groundwater levels in WCMW-6 vary from 3.2 <br />to 7.6 feet bgl. <br />Groundwater from WCMW-3 and WCMW-6 are characterized as calcium-bicarbonate <br />types, and from WCMW-2 as calcium-sulfate type. A piper plot (Figure 3-5) shows the <br />major ion water chemistry for the Wilson Creek groundwater monitoring wells. Data <br />show average field pH values of 7.3 su, 7.7 su, and 7.1 su in WCMW-2, WCMW-3, and <br />WCMW-6, respectively. Data show average nitrate values of 5.2 mg/L, 0.08 mg/L, and <br />0.16 mg/L in WCMW-2, WCMW-3, and WCMW-6, respectively. Data show average <br />sulfate values of 203 mg/L, 22 mg/L, and 73 mg/L in WCMW-2, WCMW-3, and WCMW- <br />6, respectively. <br />3.7 Poverty Gulch <br />Current Conditions <br />The Poverty Gulch drainage and the MLE permit boundary are shown on Figure 3.1. <br />Poverty Gulch is asouthwest-oriented, dry to ephemeral drainage that crosses over the <br />diatreme-granite boundary. The Poverty Gulch drainage joins with the Cripple Creek <br />drainage within the city limits of Cripple Creek. Historical mine features in Poverty Gulch <br />include the Abe Lincoln, Chicago Tunnel, Gold King, and at the potential head waters, <br />the Hoosier mine, reclaimed development rock from the 1992, 1994, and 1997 areas <br />draining off the western facing slopes. <br />There are no current active Cresson Project disturbances in the Poverty Gulch drainage. <br />New disturbances under the MLE in the Poverty Gulch drainage are proposed and <br />include the expansion of the North Cresson mine as shown on <br />Figure 1.2. <br />Surface Water <br />Surface water conditions in Poverty Gulch are not assessed due to the absence of flows. <br />Groundwater <br />Groundwater conditions in Poverty Gulch are monitored at one monitoring well on the <br />granite-diatreme boundary, designated PGMW-2. Two monitoring wells, PGMW-1 A and <br />PGMW-1 B, have been plugged and abandoned in Poverty Gulch due to poor well <br />completion. The current monitoring well location is shown on Figure 3.1. The <br />groundwater level data for PGMW-2, since its construction in 2001, indicate dry <br />conditions to the bottom of the well (218 feet bgl).
