Cripple Creek & Victor Gold Mining Company MLE Traffic Impact Study
tube counters on various roadways surrounding the mine. Additionally, 14-hour turning
movement counts were taken at the intersection of SH 67 with the Carlton mine access
and the intersection of CR 82 with the Ironclad mine access. The raw data for both the
tube counts and the 14-hour counts is contained in the appendix to this study.
Figure 1 shows the current total daily traffic (the sum of both non-mine and mine-related
traffic) taken by the tube counters. Truck traffic is shown in parentheses. (For the
purposes of this study, truck traffic is considered to be heavy or large vehicles that are
bigger than a pickup truck, two-axle, dual rear-wheel delivery truck. For this study, the
heavy or large trucks would comprise all the vehicles in the FHWA Classification Table
that are in classifications six (6) through 13.)
Figure 1 also shows mine-related traffic for select roadway segments. Mine-related truck
traffic is also shown in parentheses. Daily mine-related non-truck traffic was determined
by examining mine traffic versus total traffic during the 14-hour turning movement
counts and applying that percentage to the total daily traffic. Based on conversations
with CC&V, it is estimated that most of the mine-related truck deliveries are made during
the 14-hours between 5:30 AM and 7:30 PM. Therefore, daily mine-related truck traffic
was determined by totaling the truck turning traffic from each hour of the 14-hour turning
movement counts.

sH
190 (13)
drat

«: e~,
s"
~
- .~
+, ~~

IrondadAtxes~ ~~« ~~~
'
_ _ _ __ .
iCRIPPIE
- ~ 159 (~,
;, .
.. __ __
CR 83 ~CR 81
__. _________
H 67 CR81
CR 81
~ ,
~ ~
sH ~7
Legend N

X70C QOC) = ADT; All Traffic-vpd (Truck ADT; All Tnxksrv~ - W~E
700( QCX) = ADT; All NGne Tratrc-Wd (AQr; M9ne Trucl~-v{~
'
700( ()O() = ADT; All Traifio-vpd (Truck ADT; All Tnxksirpd) ~ ~~~ ~ (~~ ?; ,. ~~ 'i S
o
z
a
s
.
7~ .
.
.
o
CR =County Road ~ ~
~r'~~
/ "VICCO,R. ;. ; i
SH =State Highway
Carlton Access
Figure 1-Existing Daily Traffic
Interstate Engineering, Inc. 4 April, 2008
