MpenGlen September 14, 1993
Contact: Terri Hart
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ASPEN GLEN COMMENCES CONSTRUCTION ON CHAMPIONSHIP GOLF COURSE
OFFICIAL GROUND BREAKING CEREMONY TO BE HELD ON SEPTEMBER 16TH
Aspen, CO...Construction has begun on the Aspen Glen championship golf course,
the only private country club in the Roaring Fork Valley. The official Ground
Breakina Ceremonv to commemorate the start of rnnetr"cti^n is being held on
September 16th. The 7400 yard, 72 par course, designed by Tom Weiskopf and Jay
Morrieh, will be the centerpiece of a private four season, country club community
located on four miles of river frontage on the Roaring Fork. The project,
located approximately two miles from Carbondale, 30 miles from Aspen and 60 miles
from Vail, is at an elevation of 6000 feet, close to 2000' lower than its resort
neighbors. The temperate year round climate, unique to this area of the Valley,
provides the opportunity for golf to be played eight months of the year.
Rough grading of the back nine will be completed this fall. In the spring, final
grading on the back nine and rough grading of the front nine will begin as soon
as weather permits. All 18 holes are scheduled to be seeded by August of 1994
for play on the full 18-hole championship course in the summer of 1995.
"We believe the Aspen Glen golf course has the potential to rank among the very
best in the nation," says golf course architect Tom Weiskopf. "We have seldom
seen a more beautiful location for a great golf course." Among the many
gorgeous features of the property are miles of the picturesque Roaring Fork River
and spectacular views of Mt. Soprie. The course is being designed to incorporate
the river, stunning mountain and valley views, elevation changes and existing
mature trees.
"We are committed to giving our personal attention to every detail of each new
course we design," says Weiskopf, who declines more projects than he accepts each
year. "We limit our projects for two reasons, first, to allow us to give our
personal attention to every project we design and second, because we 'want to
design superior courses. We won't accept a project on a piece of land that does
not have award winning possibilities. The Aspen Glen property is ideally suited
for a championship golf course. Here we can bring our talents to the unique
natural attributes of the land to create something truly special."
The Aspen Glen Company • 555 E Durant Avenue, Suite 4A • Aspen, Colorado 81611 • 308-920.9400 • FAX 303-920-9494
