ADDITIVE ALTERNATE ITEM 1 - EQUIPMENT RENTAL
This item includes machine time using a turbo- charged excavator. Machine size will be a medium
sized, CAT 320BL or equivalent excavator with a minimum 20' reach and operator. Excavator time
is expected to perform bench recontouring and pull-back for slope alignments with surrounding
topography as well as site hydrologic control work, and other machine work as directed. Equipment
Rental will be in accordance to specifications (19.0) in the General Bid Specifications, 1996.
Equipment time will start as directed by the PROJECT MANAGER from the bench location.
Measurement and Payment
Payment for this task will be reflected under Additive Alternate Item 1 of the Bid Schedule as an
hourly rate for a CAT 320BL or equivalent excavator and operator. Bid hourly rate shall reflect the
CONTRACTORS estimate for equipment and personnel costs per hour to complete the task.
Measurement will be actual hours required to complete work as directed and approved by the
PROJECT MANAGER.
ADDITIVE ALTERNATE ITEM 2 - WEST SLOPE REVEGETATION
An approximate 0.5 acre area of downcast mixed soil and shaley material exists from a road cut
as shown in the field. The area is at an angle of repose (1.5:1). Forty (40) bales of mulch,
supplied by the OWNER, will first be distributed over the smaller area to be worked. Once an area
has had mulch evenly distributed, the surface will be manipulated by hand using a McLeod Fire
Rake, or equivalent as approved by the PROJECT MANAGER, to provide small seeding contour
furrows or benches. Furrows will be constructed so that the dimensions are no less than 12" in
width perpendicular to the slope with an 8" depth. Furrows will be spaced no further apart than 3'
center to center, horizontally (across the slope) and vertically (up and down the slope). The entire
approximate 0.5 acre area will be treated in smaller manageable sized areas to avoid the slope
fallout of the mulch to the bottom. The entire area will be treated with the mulch distribution and
mechanical surface procedure by hand. The result is to not only create furrows for seeding but
also to partially incorporate the mulch. Work will proceed at the top of the slope to bottom and from
side to side to minimize filling of the furrows by sloughing upslope material. After the initial
mulching and surface treatment has been performed, the entire area will be fertilized with BIOSOL
7.2.3 fertilizer that can be obtained from Rocky Mountain Bio-Products, Inc., Edwards, Colorado,
phone 970/926-1025. The fertilizer will be evenly applied at a rate of 1,500 pounds per acre (750
pounds will be needed). After fertilizer application, seeding will be performed with seed supplied
by the OWNER.
Measurement and Payment
Payment for this item will be reflected in a lump sum bid under Additive Alternate 2 on the bid
schedule. This lump sum bid will cover payment of all costs for mulching, hand furrow construction,
fertilizing (including supplying BIOSOL fertilizer), and seeding. These revegetation procedures will
be performed on the delineated approximate 0.5 acre area as shown in the field. There will be no
measurement for payment. Payment shall be as this item is completed and approved by the
PROJECT MANAGER. Payment for this item will be made only for that amount shown under
Additive Alternate Item 2 of the Bid Schedule. Any or all incidental costs incurred by the
9
