• <br />• <br />E <br />Whirlwind Mine Materials Containment Plan <br />30100 5110 Road Revision 2 <br />Gateway, Colorado 81522 <br />SULFURIC ACID - 93% SOLUTION <br />Synonyms: Hydrogen sulfate, oil of vitriol, mattling acid, battery acid, electrolyte acid, <br />dihydrogen sulfate, chamber acid. <br />Maximum Quantity On-site: 110 gallons <br />Description: Clear colorless to yellow liquid <br />Potential Health Hazards <br />• Skin Contact: Causes skin burns. <br />• Eye: Causes severe eye burns. May cause irreversible eye injury, <br />blindness, and/or corneal opacification. <br />• Inhalation: May cause irritation of the respiratory tract with burning pain in nose <br />and throat, coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath, and pulmonary <br />edema. Causes chemical burns to the respiratory tract. Inhalation <br />may be fatal as a result of spasm, inflammation, edema of the larynx <br />and bronchi, chemical pneumonitis, and pulmonary edema. <br />• Ingestion: May cause severe and permanent damage to the digestive tract. <br />Causes gastrointestinal tract burns. <br />• Known carcinogen <br />Potential Environmental Hazards <br />• Not a fire hazard <br />• May react vigorously, violently, or explosively with many organic and inorganic <br />chemicals and with water <br />• Highly corrosive <br />• Wear proper PPE including safety glasses, face shield, neoprene gloves, apron, and/or <br />clothing, protective work clothing, and standard site PPE <br />• Use with care and with adequate ventilation <br />• Wash thoroughly after handling <br />First Aid <br />• Eyes: Flush eyes with large volumes of water for at least 15 minutes. Seek <br />medical attention immediately. <br />• Skin: Wash skin with water for at least 15 minutes while removing <br />contaminated clothing and shoes. Seek medical attention immediately. <br />• Ingestion: Do not induce vomiting. If fully conscious, ingest cupful of water. Seek <br />medical attention immediately. <br />• Inhalation: Remove person to fresh air immediately. Perform artificial respiration if <br />necessary.
