Access Road
The asphalt access road which crosses through the Project Area must be returned to a
condition at least equal to its pre-construction condition. CONTRACTOR shall
accomplish any repairs to the road which are necessary as a result of construction
related activities. Such repairs may include, but may not be limited to grading, filling to
eliminate low spots and patching with asphaltic materials. Note that other, adjacent
landowners may use this road to access their properties during construction.
CONTRACTOR shall exercise an appropriate level of caution in order to ensure that a
safe work place is maintained for the duration of the Project.
Measurement and Payment
There will be no measurement for payment. Payment for this task will be reflected in a
lump sum bid under Item 1 on the Bid Schedule. This lump sum bid will cover all costs
for Mobilization and Demobilization. Payment shall be made as described in General
Bid Specifications 1996, Specification 1.0, Mobilization / Demobilization.
TASK 2 SLASH REDUCTION
The purpose of this task is to reduce the timber and shrub slash located in the
designated stockpiles into useable material. A machine shall be used to grind/ pulverize
/shred.or otherwise reduce the material sufficiently so that particles no greater than four
inches (4") long, two inches (2") wide and one half inch (1/2") thick are created. Ground
materials which are larger than this particle size shall be segregated from the grinder
discharge, and will be run through the grinder again until the specified particle size is
reached.
The stockpiled slash material varies in diameter from between one half inch (1/2") and
twelve inches (12"), with four to six inches (4" to 6") estimated to be the average
diameter. Rock and soil has been observed to be intermittently mixed with the slash
materials. These materials may be segregated from the slash prior to grinding. Larger
rock (that which is larger than eight to ten inches [8" to 10"] in diameter), shall be
stockpiled in a convenient, adjacent area. Smaller soil and rock materials which are
segregated from the slash material shall be stockpiled separately as they are generated.
The fine grained ground slash shall be accumulated in stockpile(s) located in the vicinity
of the grinding operation. These stockpile(s) may be located at the CONTRACTORS
convenience. Each individual stockpile shall be well defined and kept in a workman like
manner in order to maintain an orderly workplace, and in order to facilitate removal and
dispersion as addressed in'Task 4, Incorporate Materials.
Measurement and Payment
There will be no measurement for payment. Payment for this task will be reflected in a
lump sum bid under Item 2 on the Bid Schedule. This lump sum bid will cover all costs
necessary and incidental to segregating and stockpiling earthen materials as they are
separated from the slash, reducing the slash to the specified dimensions, and stockpiling
the reduced slash materials. The lump sum price shall include all equipment, machinery
and labor necessary to complete the Task as described in this specification. Payment
will be made only for the price bid in Item 2 of the Bid Schedule, and as work is
completed and approved by PROJECT MANAGER.
7
