Special Surface Roughening Specifications
Severe surface roughening will follow topsoil and mulch application. In order to accomplish the
degree of severity of roughening required, the following will be accomplished by the
CONTRACTOR:
- Apply Topsoil;
- Apply two (2) tons per acre weed free mulch, simultaneously with slope scarification;
- Scarify the surface by using a trackhoe bucket to gouge or pull the topsoil and mulch
toward the machine in a manner such that no less than fifteen inches (15") of vertical
relief is created. These gouges shall be sufficiently close so that no more than twelve
inches (12") exists between the crest of one gouge and the crest of an adjacent gouge,
in any direction.
Measurement and Payment
There will be no measurement for payment. Payment for this task will be reflected in a lump sum
bid under Item 2 on the Bid Schedule. This lump sum bid will cover all costs for soil distribution,
mulch application and surface roughening. Payment shall be as this task is completed and
approved by the PROJECT MANAGER. Such payment shall be considered full compensation for
all labor, materials, equipment and all other items necessary and incidental to the completion of
Task 2.
TASK 3 FINAL GRADING
A small amount of grading work may be required at the newly exposed surface where the coal
mine waste was excavated. Grading, if undertaken, will be directed at stabilizing the hill slope
through minor grading practices and scaling to prevent rockfalls. It is estimated that no more than
eight (8) hours of track hoe and /or light dozer time would be expended in accomplishing this
Task.
Measurement and Payment
There will be no measurement for payment. Payment for this task will be reflected in a lump sum
bid under Item 3 on the Bid Schedule. This lump sum bid will cover all costs for scaling efforts and
other minor grading as required in the field. Payment shall be as this task is completed and
approved by the PROJECT MANAGER. Such payment shall be considered full compensation for
all labor, materials, equipment and all other items necessary and incidental to the completion of
Task 3.
TASK 4 REVEGETATION
All areas disturbed during reclamation work and any other areas specified in these Special
Conditions will be revegetated according to the Revegetation Specifications in the General Bid
Specifications. Commercial fertilizer is required for this project, and will be supplied by
CONTRACTOR. Seed will be supplied by the OWNER.
All areas disturbed during reclamation work and any other areas specified in these Special
Conditions will be revegetated according to the Revegetation Specifications in the General Bid
Specifications Section 20.0, except as modified by these Special Conditions.
6
