Mile Support Facilities
Several methane drainage well sites in the West Flatiron area and Box Canyon area were inspected.
These sites ranged from active wells to fully reclaimed sites. No problems were found at the sites.
Well pads had alternative sediment control measures in place (silt fence, straw waddles,etc.). Topsoil
stockpiles were marked. Revegetation is making good progress on the older, reclaimed sites.
Mountain Coal photographs the reclaimed sites for their annual Reclamation Photograph Project
report, submitted at the end of each year.
Subsidence
Subsidence cracks have formed where the West Flatiron road crosses a sandstone exposure near
methane drainage wells 21-01,21-02,and 21-03. The road has been regraded to eliminate the hazard.
The operator's representative reported that some of the cracks were between 2 and 3 feet wide. The
operator's consultant photographed the cracks for the summer 2008 subsidence report before the cracks
were graded over. The sandstone exposure extends from the road to a nearby cliff face which has
subsidence cracks a few inches wide. A dead camera battery prevented photographing the cracks
during this inspection, but the location will be visited again in next month's inspection.
A cliff face has sloughed off at the head of Box Canyon near methane drainage well 21-04,probably as
a result of subsidence(see Photo 4, below).
Documents Received
No documents were received during the inspection.
Photo 1 —Reclaimed methane drainage well pad on West Flatiron Road.
4
