TBM C-1981-048
23 June 2008
Page 2/2
Hydrologic Balance: - Pond 15-P1 1 (cont.) There were no erosional problems noted
on the pond embankment at the time of the inspection. The emergency spillway is a
riprapped open channel. The spillway appeared to be stable at the time of the
inspection.
- Pond 15-P12 was dry at the time of the inspection. The embankment was well
vegetated and appeared stable. There were no erosional problems noted on the
embankment. The emergency spillway is a riprapped open channel. The spillway
appeared to be stable at the time of the inspection.
- The ponds on the Pit 2 contour area were not inspected.
Backfilling and Grading: - The backfilled Pit 4 area appears to be stable. There did
not appear to be any settling, slumping or cracking in the backfilled pit. There are a
few large gullies that have formed in the backfilled Pit 4 area. There was a group of
people building a house (a modular home) on the reclaimed pit just east of Pond 15-
P8. The builders excavated the backfill for a basement for the house. They have also
graded out a road spur off of the county road.
- The Pit 2 contour strip area east of the county road was stable at the time of the
inspection. No settling, slumping or cracking was noted on the backfill. There was
only one gully noted on the contour area, on the west side of the contour.
- The smaller contour strip area of Pit 2 west of the county road was also stable at the
time of the inspection. No settling, slumping or cracking was noted on the backfill.
There were no gullies noted on this portion of the pit.
Revegetation: - As stated above, the main reason for this inspection was to do the
year ten vegetation sampling. A total of 20 transects were sampled (nine on Pit 4,
ten on the large Pit 2 contour strip east of the county road and one on the small Pit 2
contour strip west of the county road). The live vegetative cover ranged from 19% to
36% with an average of 26.5%. The cover is lower than it was last year, with much of
the area last year being over 40% cover. Overall, however, the cover and litter
appear to be sufficient to control erosion. In addition to the 20 cover transects, 30-
one-half meter production plots were clipped.
Reclamation Success: - The entire TBM site is well vegetated and stable overall. There
are a few areas with gullies and some patches of weeds but the reclamation
appears to have stabilized the site and returned it to productive use.
