3. SPECIFIC CONTROL PLANS FOR HIGH PRIORITY WEED SPECIES
Weed: Russian knapweed (Centaurea repens), and related species--Spotted or
diffuse knapweed Priority: 1
A. Current distribution: Existing infestations of Russian knapweed are known to be present
on the project site. This weed is notorious for infesting gravel pits and seed then being
spread with the contaminated gravel. Determination of extent of current infestation will
be made at initial weed survey used to develop baseline data.
B. Goal: To eradicate the existing populations and prevent spread to non-infested
locations in, or within, the permit area.
C. Management plans: Utilize herbicide applications as warranted by severity of infestation.
D. Evaluation: Assess population changes through annual inventory.
Weed: Canada thistle (Cirsium arvense) Priority: 1
A. Current distribution: One small patch is located on the property.
B. Goal: To eradicate current population and prevent spread to non-infested locations
within the project area.
C. Management plans: Reduce any population through herbicide application.
D. Evaluation: Assess population changes through annual inventory.
Weed: Tamarisk (Tamarix ramosissima) Priority: 1
A. Current distribution: Known infestations are present in the southwestern corner of the
site. This, and other infestations, will be identified at initial weed survey used to
develop baseline data.
B. Goal: To eliminate existing populations, and prevent establishment of new infestations.
C. Management plans: Utilize herbicide applications as warranted by severity of infestation.
D. Evaluation: Assess population changes through annual inventory.
Weed: Field bindweed (Convo/vu/us arvensis) Priority: 1
A. Current distribution: Currently there is a known population on previously farmed areas
of the project site. Extent will be determined at initial weed survey used to develop
baseline data.
B. Goal: To control existing populations and prevent spread onto other areas of the project
site.
C. Management plans: Utilize herbicide applications as warranted by severity of infestation.
D. Evaluation: Assess population changes through annual inventory.
Weed: Kochia (Kochia scoparia) Priority: 2
A. Current distribution: Kochia is on the Otero County noxious weed list. Currently there is
a known population on previous farmed areas of the project site. Extent will be
determined at initial weed survey used to develop baseline data.
B. Goal: To control existing populations and prevent spread onto other areas of the project
site.
C. Management plans: Utilize herbicide applications as warranted by severity of infestation.
D. Evaluation: Assess population changes through annual inventory.
7
All Rite Paving & Redi-Mix, Inc. Site Weed Management Plan June 20, 2008
