West Elk Mine 2007 Annual Hydrology Report 23
• 3.2.3.5 Springy
Spring G-30 is located in Gribble Gulch above the east end of the Jumbo Mountain mine panels
(Map 2). It issues from alluvium, but measurable flow has not been observed since WY 2001. It is
recommended that this monitoring station be deleted from the hydrologic monitoring plan, because
mining activities have moved well east of the Jumbo Mountain area and there have been no
measurable mining-induced impacts at this site. This spring has been monitored since 1977.
3.2.3.6 Spring G-25 (Decreed Spring #22)
Spring G-25 is located in the Gribble Gulch drainage and is situated north of the Jumbo Mountain
mine panels (Map 2). It issues from alluvium and flows into a holding pond. This spring has
perennial flow which diminishes in late summer. It is recommended that this monitoring station be
deleted from the hydrologic monitoring plan, because mining activities have moved well east of the
Jumbo Mountain area and there have been no measurable mining-induced impacts at this site. This
spring has been monitored since 1977.
3.2.3.7 Spring G-35 (Decreed Spring #18)
Spring G-35 is located on the north flank of Jumbo Mountain in an unnamed drainage west of
• Gribble Gulch which is tributary to the North Fork (Map 2). This spring is situated on the north
edge of the Jumbo Mountain mine panels. This spring issues from alluvium and flows into a
holding pond which has water during wet climatological cycles. It is recommended that this
monitoring station be deleted from the hydrologic monitoring plan, because mining activities have
moved well east of the Jumbo Mountain area and there have been no measurable mining-induced
impacts at this site. This spring has been monitored since 1993.
3.2.3.8 Spring G-49a
Spring G-49a is located on the north flank of Jumbo Mountain, west of Gribble Gulch, in an
unnamed drainage tributary to the North Fork (Map 2). The spring is situated north of the Jumbo
Mountain mine panels. Flow is perennial, but diminishes in the autumn. This spring issues from
alluvium and hydrological monitoring measurements are taken at the end of an outflow pipe from
an enclosed spring house. It is recommended that this monitoring station be deleted from the
hydrologic monitoring plan, because mining activities have moved well east of the Jumbo
Mountain area and there have been no measurable mining-induced impacts at this site. This spring
has been monitored since 1995.
•
June 2008 HydroGeo, Inc.
