West Elk Mine 2007 Annual Hydrology Report 22
3.2.3 Springs above the B Seam in the Jumbo Mountain Area in the
North Fork Drainage Basin
3.2.3.1 Spring CR-12 (Decreed Sprinjz#12)
Spring CR-12 is located in Lone Pine Gulch north of the NW mine panels (Map 2). It issues from
alluvium on the south side of the gulch. This is a perennial spring, but the volume of flow
diminishes in summer and autumn. It is recommended that this monitoring station be deleted from
the hydrologic monitoring plan, because mining activities have moved well east of the Jumbo
Mountain area and there have been no measurable mining-induced impacts at this site. This spring
has been monitored since 1993.
3.2.3.2 Spring G-26a
Spring G-26a is located in Lone Pine Gulch north of the NW mine panels (Map 2). This spring
issues from alluvium and flows into a small pond. This spring is seasonal and flow only occurs
during peak flow conditions. It is recommended that this monitoring station be deleted from the
hydrologic monitoring plan, because mining activities have moved well east of the Jumbo
Mountain area and there have been no measurable mining-induced impacts at this site. This spring
has been monitored since 1980.
3.2.3.3 Spring G-28a
Spring G-28a is located in a north tributary to Gribble Gulch (Map 2). It is situated above the
westernmost panels in the NW mine panels. This spring issues from alluvium and is seasonal.
Flow usually occurs during the peak flow period and accumulates in a stock pond. It is
recommended that this monitoring station be deleted from the hydrologic monitoring plan, because
mining activities have moved well east of the Jumbo Mountain area and there have been no
measurable mining-induced impacts at this site. This spring has been monitored since 1978.
3.2.3.4 Spring (Decreed Spring
Spring G-31 is located in Gribble Gulch above the east end of the Jumbo Mountain mine panels
(Map 2). This spring issues from alluvium and flows into a small pond. It is seasonal and flow
usually occurs during wet spring conditions. The pond is often dry in summer and autumn. It is
recommended that this monitoring station be deleted from the hydrologic monitoring plan, because
mining activities have moved well east of the Jumbo Mountain area and there have been no
measurable mining-induced impacts at this site. This spring has been monitored since 1977.
•
June 2008 HydroGeo, Inc.
