4.0 CONCLUSIONS AND REQUEST FOR CONCURRENCE
The projected sediment yield from each of the reclaimed areas is less than the sediment
yield projected from the corresponding native adjacent area. Based on this analysis, the
reclaimed and revegetated areas contribute less additional suspended solids than natural
areas to the receiving waters downstream. Discharge monitoring conducted over the life
of the Carbon Junction Mine for the Colorado Department of Public Health and
Environment has consistently demonstrated the when infrequent discharges from the
sediment ponds do occur, they meet all downstream receiving stream standards.
For the above reasons, Oakridge Energy requests that the Colorado Division of
Reclamation, Mining and Safety concur with our demonstration and conclusions and find
that the sediment ponds are no longer needed at the Carbon Junction Mine,
Oakridge Energy Carbon Junction Mine Page 7
Sediment Pond Sedimentology Demonstration
