Colowyo C-1981-019
3 June 2008 07
Pg 3/5
- The Gulch A Pond (NPDES 004A) contained water approximately two feet below the
riser and was discharging a trickle from the weep hole at the bottom of the
discharge pipe at the time of the inspection. The water in the pond and the
discharge appeared to be clear at the time of the inspection. There appears to be a
good deal of sediment in the Gulch A Pond from the spring runoff. The pond
embankment was well vegetated and appeared to be stable at the time of the
inspection. No erosional problems noted on the embankment at the time of the
inspection. The emergency spillway is an open, trapezoidal riprapped channel. The
spillway appeared to be stable and well maintained at the time of the inspection.
Goodspring Creek flows right past the Gulch A Pond embankment. The creek was
flowing high at the time of the inspection but it was much lower than in May, when it
had topped over the bridge that crosses Goodspring. The area below the pond
where it discharges has also dried out some (last month it was flooded).
- The Streeter Pond (NPDES 001 A) contained water approximately two feet below the
discharge pipe and was discharging through the weep hole at the time of the
inspection. The discharge and the water in the pond appeared to be clear at the
time of the inspection. There was water flowing into the Streeter Pond from the
Streeter Fill perimeter ditch at the time of the inspection. The pond embankment was
well vegetated and appeared to be stable at the time of the inspection. No
erosional problems noted on the embankment at the time of the inspection. The
discharge from the Streeter Pond enters Goodspring Creek then flows through a large
culvert under Colorado Highway 13. CDOT is responsible for keeping this culvert
clean and it does appear as though it has been recently cleaned.
- The Section 28 Pond was not accessible at the time of the inspection due to the
muddy conditions on the Sturgeon road on 4 June 2008.
- The Stoker Siding Pond (NPDES 005A) contained water approximately four feet
below the top of the discharge pipe but was discharging a trickle from the weep
hole at the bottom of the pipe. The pond embankment was well vegetated and
appeared to be stable. The emergency spillway is a riprapped open channel. The
spillway appeared to be stable and functioning as designed. There were no
erosional problems noted on the pond embankment at the time of the inspection.
- The East Taylor Pond (NPDES 010A) contained water approximately eight feet below
the top of the discharge pipe and one foot below the weep hole and was not
discharging at the time of the inspection. The pond embankment was well
vegetated and appeared to be stable. The emergency spillway is a riprapped open
channel. The spillway appeared to be stable and functioning as designed. There
were no erosional problems noted on the pond embankment at the time of the
inspection.
I
