Miscellaneous Utilities. Underground utilities, including phone lines, water
lines, and buried power lines that provide service to the Loadout, will be
abandoned in place.
Backfilling and Grading
Following building demolition and removal, the first major phase in the
reclamation of disturbed land is backfilling and grading the cut and fill areas.
This process is discussed in the Backfilling and Grading Plan found in Tab 18.
The first step is the determination of volumes. Cross sections were developed
in the rail spur area with the aid of a computer program from SoftDesk (see
Exhibit 18-2). Postmine slopes were then superimposed on the diagrams. For the
sake of continuity, it was estimated that all material would be graded toward
the railroad cut at slopes between 5H:1V and lOH:1V when sufficient adjacent
land was available. A digitizer was used to balance the cut and fill volumes of
material needed to create the above-described topography. This produced a final
topography that could not only be revegetated, but would also allow drainage to
flow through the reclaimed area without impounding water.
The CDMG utilized the CIRCES Cost Estimation Software to determine dozer
production. The program utilizes information given in the Caterpillar Handbook.
All tables and charts are computerized to simulate production for track type
equipment. See the various worksheets in Attachment 23-1 for production and
costs.
It is not anticipated that wheel type earthmovers will be needed to backfill the
cut areas. Sufficient material exists adjacent to the cut areas for backfill
purposes.
Facility Area. After the buildings and light poles are demolished and removed,
the facility area is reclaimed. Three feet of material will be ripped in the
facilities area. The top one foot of gravel/scoria surfacing on the
parking/storage areas will be dozed into cuts or low areas adjacent to the
facility. This material will be covered during the grading process.
Sediment Ponds. The two sediment ponds will be totally reclaimed. Locations of
the impoundments are shown on Exhibit 12-2. Material adjacent to the ponds will
be used to backfill the ponds.
MR-16 3 Revised 11/07
