• 2.03.8 Permit Term Information.

(1) Not applicable.
(2) The mine commenced operations on the 120-acre Pavlisick lease in
1976. On March 29, 1978, mining commenced on the 311-acre
Federal Lease C-25079. Mining began on the 854-acre Federal
Lease C-27432 in October, 1979. Lease C-27432 was modified on
April 12, 1983, adding 160 acres to the original lease acreage and
providing access to Lease D-036955. Mining began in the Lease C-
27432 modification area on June 7, 1983, and in Lease D-036955 on
September 9, 1983, with the approval of both State and Federal
regulatory authorities.
The Operator obtained approval of a 5-year permit for the entire area
of Lease C-37210 and the previously issued leases. An additional
lease modification application for Federal Lease COC-37210 was
initiated in October, 1991. This application incorporated
approximately40addltional acres into the leased area. A subsequent
additional lease application for Federal Lease COC-53356 was
initiated in October, 1991. This application incorporated
approximately 520 additional acres to the leased area. The permit
describes the methods by which the coal reserves contained within
the leased acreage were mined. Mining has ceased at the Bowie No.
1 Mine, the area previously mined is shown in Volume 2, Map No. 2-5.
The vertical extent of the mine workings is limited within the thickness
of the "D" seam and typically ranges from 8 to 16 feet. The horizontal
extent of the workings is depicted in Volume 2, Map No. 2-5.
Information on approximate starting and termination dates for each
phase of underground mining activity and the associated surface
acreage undermined is depicted in Volume 2, Map No. 2-5.
Due to a mine fire on June 1, 1986, the East Mine portals and
ventilation shafts were sealed. Approval of a permit revision
application was received on November 13, 1986, for the West Mine.
Three portals were constructed at this site.
Three underground entries were driven in a northwest direction to the
South III submains. No change in the mine plan and only a change
in mining sequence occurred. Refer to revised Map 2-5 in Volume 2
for the projected mining dates.
LJ
So -4
A PPRO~
9/z8/a y
26 - Rev. 06/04
