III. COMMENTS - COMPLIANCE
Eagle Mines C-1981-044
Pg3/3 21 May 2008 e7_=>
Topsoil: - All of the topsoil piles were well vegetated and appeared stable at the time
of the inspection. There were no erosional problems noted on any of the piles.
- The operator has spread topsoil on the regraded solid waste disposal area.
Revegetation: - The operator was reseeding the regraded and topsoiled solid waste
disposal area at the time of the inspection. There were thunderstorms and rain in the
area the next few days, which should help the efforts.
- The operator also seeded the ranch road that goes to the top of the ridge on the
west-side of the mine, above the reclaimed portal #4.
Reclamation Success: - Since the last inspection the operator has completed a fair
amount of demolition. The demolished buildings include the B&S Building, a rock
dust tank (which was hauled to the 20-Mile Mine for use there), the lab trailer, a shed
building by the shop/warehouse and the bath house. The structures and their
foundations/footings have been completely removed from the site. All of these
structures (with the exception of the rock dust tank) were buried in the solid waste
disposal area on the east side of the mine. This area can be seen in relation to the
other facilities and structures on Map 25 -Structures and Renewable Resources.
- The Williams Fork Strip Pit was stable and well vegetated at the time of the
inspection. There were no signs of erosion at the time of the inspection. There is an
area on the south and east of the final pit that looks like a historic slide/slump of the
topsoil. This area has a fair amount of vegetation on it and appears to be stable at
this time.
- It was discussed with the operator that BTU-Empire is working on a bond release for
the Williams Fork Strip Pit and possible the demolished structures discussed above.
Overall the mine appears to be in good condition.
