Colowyo C-1981-019
20 May 2008
Pg 5/5
General Mine Plan Compliance (cont.): - The 114 shovel operation was currently
working on the box-cut area of the South Taylor Pit.
- The 115 excavator was also working on the box-cut area of the South Taylor Pit.
- The mining at the Colowyo Mine appears to be progressing as discussed and
approved in the PAP.
Air Resource Protection: - The mine was very wet on 26 February 2008 so there was no
problem with fugitive dust. The majority of the haul roads had dried out by 27
February 2008 so there was some dust being generated. Please remember that even
though it is winter, it may still be necessary to water the haul roads, as conditions
dictate.
Excess Spoil: - The reclaimed portions of the West Pit fill were well vegetated and
appeared to be stable at the time of the inspection. There were no erosional
problems noted on the fill. The top 75 feet of the fill (approximately) will need to be
removed and hauled into the West Pit to achieve AOC and the approved PMT.
- The Streeter fill was well vegetated and appeared to be stable at the time of the
inspection. No erosional problems were noted on the fill. This pile has gone through
a Phase II bond release. The fill was well vegetated at the time of the inspection.
- The Section 16 fill was inaccessible at the time of the inspection due to mud. The
pile should be accessible in June.
- The operator has begun construction on portions of the East Taylor fill. The area is
clear of topsoil and ready for fill. The underdrain location has been constructed and
Colowyo is waiting to get into more competent and larger rock before starting to
dump into the fill. The underdrain will be constructed using gravity-sorted rock that
will be wing-dumped into the fill. The large rock will then be covered with filter fabric
then the excess spoil. It is anticipated that the underdrain will be completed in
stages as competent rock is encountered.
Overall, the operations and reclamation at the Colowyo Mine are being conducted
in accordance with the approved plans contained within the PAP. The operation is
doing a good job ensuring compliance with all of the Rules.
I
