Data on important parameters of road cuts are presented in
the Road Logs. They include the cut height , cut slope, cut
material , grade of slope above the cut, data on surface -and
ground water conditions, data on cut slope vegetation and
observation on the cut stability. .
Similar data have been collected on the road fills. They
include the fill height, slope, grade of slope below the fill ,
data on surface and ground water conditions, fill slope
vegetation and observations on the fill stability.
Data on the avalanche danger are also included in the Road
Logs. They are based on the field observations and on Mid-
Continent 's experience.
The method of road logging was presented to MLRD
representatives and discussed with them prior to the field
documentation.
The classification of haul roads is also shown on Plates 2
and 3, Configurations and Geotechnical Conditions, Haul Roads,
North and South Parts. Configurations of the roads in a cross-
section (cut , fill or no earthwork) are shown on the Plates
together with the indication of important stability problems
and with the location of avalanche paths.
Some parameters and factors pertaining to haul roads that
might be of importance for their reclamation have been .
summarized in a series of Tables. Table 2 presents a summary of
road configurations (cuts, fills, no earthwork) for individual
roads. Tables 3 through 10 present configurations and important
geotechnical data (material , height , slope , stability,
vegetation cover and water seeps of road cuts , height , slope ,
stability, vegetation cover and water seeps of road fills) of
individual roads. In these Tables, the total lengths of road
sections with similar or comparable configurations and
geotechnical conditions have been evaluated. Table 11 is a
summary of the same parameters of the entire haul road system
of Coal Basin Mines.
The Tables have been prepared with the help of detailed
Road Logs presented in Appendix A. We feel that the Tables
provide sufficient information as required by MLRD. We believe
that they can later be used for a detailed design of
reclamation procedures of all the haul road system. Such
detailed design will require an estimation of reclamation
methods for individual road configurations and geotechnical
conditions as defined in the Tables. The reclamation methods
will be evaluated during the work of Phases 2 and 3.
Table 12 presents a summary of the avalanche hazard along
the haul roads in the Coal Basin.
