individual test sections will be monitored and evaluated so
that appropriate reclamation methods can be developed and used
in the future. This work comprises Phase '-3 of the proposed
program.
Phase 1 was scheduled for 1983; work of Phase 2 will be
performed during 1984.. Phase 3 is scheduled for the years 1985
to 1987.
Geo-Hydro Consulting, Inc. was retained by Mid-Continent
Resources, Inc. to perform the reclamation study. Work of Phase
1 has been completed; its results are presented in this report.
1. 2 SCOPE OF THE STUDY
MLRD stipulations required Mid-Continent Resources to
complete a thorough mapping of the existing haul- road system
and of the five mine benches at the Coal Basin mines during
Phase l .of the reclamation studies. The mapping should include
topics such as bedrock and surficial geology, landslides and
avalanches , methods of road and bench construction and the
slope angles.
The scope of such a program is to develop categorization
of the haul road system that would enable the development of
typical reclamation procedures for each category of road.
Similar procedures should be used for the existing mine
benches.
1. 3 METHOD OF STUDY
Documentation of the haul road system and of the mine
benches is the basis for the Phase 1 work. The documentation
was performed by Geo-Hydro geotechnical engineers during the
summer of 1983. Topographic maps of the area on a scale of 1" =
400' were made available to us and were used as a basis for the
documentation program. Mid-Continent's designation of roads by
letters A through G and approximate stationing of roads as
introduced in the Permit Application has been used for the
purpose of this study.
The method of haul road mapping and its results are
presented in Appendix A of this report. The documentation is
shown in " Road Logs" attached to this Appendix . The
documentation includes numerous data that may be relevant to
reclamation purposes. Roads have been categorized according to
their .method of construction; sections of a road in a cut only,
in a fill only, sections in both a cut and a fill , and sections
with no significant earthwork have been differentiated.
