Chapter V
Phase I: The capacity of the pile in Phase I is approximately 875,000
cu. yds. of refuse. The total disturbed area of this phase is 15.8
` acres. The pile has nearly reached the Phase 1 capacity at the time
of permit submittal.
Two sediment ponds were designed and constructed to handle
Phases I and II.
Phase II: Expands the pile to handle a total of 1,700,000 cu. yds.
The additional disturbed area is 14 acres.
Phase III: Expands the Sutey refuse disposal area an additional
11.1 acres, increasing pile capacity to approximately 7,800,000
cu. yds.
It is anticipated this will provide sufficient capacity for 7 to 10 years
of waste.
The refuse conveyor will be extended an additional 1,150' north of
the existing, Phase I pile, with an additional 5.3 acres of disturbed area.
A third sediment pond will be constructed for Phase III.
• Phase IV: The final phase will provide sufficient capacity for refuse
generated to the end of the mine life.
An additional sediment pond will be constructed for Phase IV.
Permit approval will be requested as the pile is reaching the
Phase III capacity.
*Note: The operator feels that references in previous submittals concerning the
Sutey site have become somewhat confusing in that the four phases of the Sutey
pile expansion have been labeled Phases I and Il of the first phase, and Phases I
and II of the second phase.
For this permit submittal, and in future communications, the operator will refer to the
four phases, as follows:
Phase I was approved as a Permit Revision in September, 1984.
Phase II was approved as a Technical Revision in July, 1986.
Phase 111 was approved as Phase I of a Technical Revision in September, 1987.
Phase IV(Phase/1 of the 1987 TR) has not been permitted. ,
Reclamation of the Sutey pile will begin with the outslopes and will, essentially,
follow along as the active deposition of refuse progresses to other areas.
14
