TECHNICAL DISCUSSION
The objective of this proposal is to present a program designed to
measure and analyze the response of strata to mining of a thick coal seam
by multiple lift longwall mehtods. The following technical discussion
outlines the engineering approach Mine Subsidence Engineering Company pro-
poses to complete the required work. To attain the aforementioned objective,
the total effort has been broken into five major tasks. The proposed program
schedule showing the timing and execution of these tasks is shown in Figure I.
Task I - Proposed Site
• One requirement for responding to this RFP was that the contractor pro-
vide a site where the investigation of surface subsidence over a r. .ltiple
lift mining operation could be conducted. At- the present time, only one mine
in the United States is conducting multi-lift Iong4alI .mining of coal . Mine Subsidence Engineering Company has obtained
access and permission to perform the proposed subsidence investigation on the
surface over the No. 3 Mine from Mid-Continent Rescurces , Inc. A letter
providing this access is included in Appendix A.
Site Location:
The proposed mi.e site is loc - tzd approximately ICu mile-I wee--. orr Dell-
Colorado.
