TECHNICAL DISCUSSION <br /> The objective of this proposal is to present a program designed to <br /> measure and analyze the response of strata to mining of a thick coal seam <br /> by multiple lift longwall mehtods. The following technical discussion <br /> outlines the engineering approach Mine Subsidence Engineering Company pro- <br /> poses to complete the required work. To attain the aforementioned objective, <br /> the total effort has been broken into five major tasks. The proposed program <br /> schedule showing the timing and execution of these tasks is shown in Figure I. <br /> Task I - Proposed Site <br /> • One requirement for responding to this RFP was that the contractor pro- <br /> vide a site where the investigation of surface subsidence over a r. .ltiple <br /> lift mining operation could be conducted. At- the present time, only one mine <br /> in the United States is conducting multi-lift Iong4alI .mining of coal . In <br /> CGn�UnCLiGn ';/1th the Department of Eneray, lid-�Ontin :GSCUrC`5 , i�C. i5 <br /> conducting a multi-lift demonstration at their No. 3 'dine in the Coal Basin <br /> area near Redstone, Colorado. Mine Subsidence Engineering Company has obtained <br /> access and permission to perform the proposed subsidence investigation on the <br /> surface over the No. 3 Mine from Mid-Continent Rescurces , Inc. A letter <br /> providing this access is included in Appendix A. <br /> Site Location: <br /> The proposed mi.e site is loc - tzd approximately ICu mile-I wee--. orr Dell- <br /> Colorado. The No. 3 Mine is one of five mines operat-ed by Mid-Continent <br />
