vegetation on the west side of the ridge is denser than on
the east side of the ridge.
•
Seasonal Discharge Records and Storm Runoff
Data from a U. S . Geological Survey water monitoring station
located on the Clear Fork of the East Muddy in Sec. 34, T . 10S . ,
R. 90W. is summarized on Table 783 . 16-11, Summary of Discharge
Data, Clear Fork near Rugged Mountain, a summary of daily
discharge data is located in Appendix F. This station,
located on Figure 733 . 16-7, was monitored from October 1965
to September 1973, and recorded the flow of the Clear Fork
Basin and East Muddy Creek Basin, an area approximately 34. 5
square miles in size . The watershed from the mine lease area
(adjacent area) makes up approximately 45% of the Clear Fork
watershed above the gaging. station. The actual mine lease
Sarea in. the Clear Fork watershed consists of a little more
than four sq.mi. or approximately 10% of the Clear Fork
watershed above the gaging station.
From the stream flow records , it is apparent that the
precipitation during winter months is retained as a sno, apack
throughout much of the winter and early spring and is released
in late spring- and early summer during the spring thaw. The
months of April, May and June show the most marked increase,
with water flow beginning to abate in later summer months as
the snow dissipates on the higher slopes . A twenty-five to
thirty fold increase from minimum winter flow to peak
• summer flow is not unusual.
