Such a
determination is cased on the following with respect to the
areas above or near th-e Coal basin underground minin-- operation :
- no unconsolidated strea.ilaid devosits holding streams
are present in or adjacent to the permit area greater
than the minimum valley width criteria (50 ' ) .
- no caoacity exists for flood irrigation, based on
strew;!-= .ow ?eater vield , soils , water qual' iry ,
topography and re`74onal practices
- no suoirriga:ion of the lands in question is possible,
Cdrained from the around water system of the valley
floor
- the historic and present use of the lard has been
limited to undeveloped rangeland .
Tt is further believed by the applicant that the
information prosided in Chapter =T_T , Environme:tai Rescurces
Information, . is co-,Ppletely adequate for the reviewing
authorities to make t^e=r assesBSient of the nes-ative deter-
mination claim D' 'Mid-Continent .
Additional Comment : An assessment of AVF was made by the local
SCS office who visited the site . Perhaps we should define
alluvium. Sand , clay and rocks , etc . deposited by flowing water .
There is alluvium in Coal Basin and east :Muddy Creek drainages .
But these drainages are extremely steep and subject to frequent
scouring . Little or no soil as such exists . The major surface
being rocks , sand and gravel . See also Hydrology Section for
static groundwater measurements showing groundwater table for
{ " y the most part at 20 to 25 feet below the surface .
46
