A <br /> • search of the Colorado Archaeological Site Inventory and the <br /> Colorado Inventory of Historic Sites , as well as records of <br /> nominations pending or on the National Register of Historic <br /> Places for Townships 9 and 10 South; Ranges 39 and 90 West <br /> (which encompass the entire Coal Basin Mine Plan Area) <br /> revealed no known sites . (Appendix III-B-1) <br /> The one site that might meet the eligibility <br /> requirements of the National Register of Historic Places is <br /> the old Coal Basin townsight . Accordingly, Mid-Continent <br /> engaged the consulting firm of Powers Elevation to conduct <br /> an initial survey and recording of the Coal Basin Townsite . <br /> That firm concluded that the Coal Basin Townsite may meet <br /> • the eligibility requirements of the National Register of <br /> Historic Places . (Appendix III-B-2) . <br /> Cultural Resources Surveys have been performed for <br /> areas of surface disturbance during the past few years . <br /> Those conducted in areas of the rock tunnel construction and <br /> exploration light use roads have located no evidence of <br /> archaeological sites . (See Appendices III-B-3 . , 4 . and 5 . ) . <br /> Very little additional surface disturbance will be <br /> necessary in the Coal Basin Mine Plan Area over the planned <br /> life of the mine . Cultural resource surveys will be performed <br /> before any further surface disturbance is accomplished . <br /> Pending the outcome of the determination of whether or not <br /> the Coal Basin Townsite should be subject to formal National <br /> .
